How Much is a Cubic Metre?

When you're planning a landscaping project, it can be tricky to picture just how much material you actually need. That’s why we’ve put together this visual guide to help you understand what 0.25m³, 0.5m³, 0.75m³ and 1m³ of mulch, gravel or soil really looks like – so you can order with confidence.

Whether you're topping up a garden bed, laying a path, or doing a full yard makeover, this guide will help you choose the right quantity for the job.

This guide is useful when ordering:

  • Mulch & wood chips
  • Decorative stones & gravels
  • Soils & top dressings
  • Quarry products (crusher dust, road base, etc.)

0.25 m3 - quarter cubic metre

Equivalent to roughly 3 standard wheelbarrow loads

Great for small garden beds, touch-ups, or patch jobs.

0.5 m3 - Half Cubic Metre

Equivalent to about 6–7 wheelbarrow loads

Ideal for mulching a few garden beds or a small path.

0.75 m3 - Three-Quarter Cubic Metre

Equivalent to around 10 wheelbarrow loads

A good middle ground for medium-sized jobs.

1 m3 - one cubic metre

Roughly 13–14 wheelbarrow loads
